Induction ceremony for 2021 roster is Sept. 11 in Marshall

For more than 70 years, Jerry Voyce of East Leroy has been involved in the agricultural industry.
He owns 500 acres and rents an additional 80 acres at his farm in Calhoun County, said Jen Rice, of the Marshall City Council.
Through the years, he has been active with the FFA, the Michigan Milk Producers Board, the Calhoun County Vocational Education Center Board and the Farm Bureau Board.
When he was younger, he worked on his family's dairy farm.
Voyce purchased the elevator in East Leroy in the early 1970s, and eventually also purchased the elevator in Richland.
He grows corn, beans and certified wheat.
The wheat is treated and bagged for seed wheat at his own elevators at an astounding rate of 8,000 60-pound bags each year.
In the 1980s, he joined with Bob Griffin and started “no till” farming, which decreases the amount of soil erosion tillage causes, especially in sandy and dry soils on sloping terrain.
He has also owned a crop spraying business for 40 years, and offers feed grinding services for small farmers.
Voyce has always enjoyed helping people in the community, supplying farmers with whatever they need to plant their crops, said Rice.
He is reportedly a free “book of knowledge,” and many local farmers have survived hard times thanks to his help and guidance.
In addition to his active farming business and elevators, Voyce has consulted with multiple state senators and representatives on issues facing the agricultural industry at both the state and national level.
The Michigan Farmer's Hall of Fame was founded in 1982 with its annual induction ceremony held during Prairieville Farm Days.
In 2015, with the assistance of Harry and Sharon Pratley and Fredonia Grange #1713, a board of directors was established and the hall of fame moved to the Calhoun County Fairgrounds in Marshall, where this year’s induction ceremony will be held Saturday, Sept. 11.
Additional inductees will be Quentin and Linda Harwood of Ionia, Gordon and Patricia Endsley of Hastings, Dennis and Diane Hanson of Cornell, Dennis and Shelly Hartmann of South Haven, and the Norton family, Ken and Janie, and Dale and Roberta of Bronson.
