The shuffleboard courts located at the front entrance to Battle Creek’s Bailey Park were busy with action last Friday morning. But not as busy as they would have been under non-COVID-19 circumstances.
“Right now, regularly at this time on this date, this place would have been packed,” said Battle Creek Shuffleboard Club president Larry Roan on July 31.
“This would have been the first day of the eighth straight year that our club would have been hosting the State Shuffleboard Tournament.
“But due to COVID-19 and everything that goes with it, that’s not happening this year. And it’s sad. The state tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19. But hopefully, we’ll get back to normal sometime soon, and hopefully next year the state tournament will be back.”
About 16 players were on the courts last Friday, playing some friendly matches.
And Roan noted that the B.C. Shuffleboard Club – and non-members who are giving the activity a try – will continue to meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings until weather no longer allows this fall.
Those wishing to play those days are asked to arrive at the courts at 9:45 a.m., followed by play at 10 a.m.
Everyone is invited to participate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings – novices through professionals – and those that know nothing about the activity, how to play, or have limited knowledge, will be given free instructions and equipment to use.
The normal annual fee to become a B.C. Shuffleboard Club member is $10.
